Even though our little furry friend saw his shadow and has determined we are in for more of the wintery weather, spring will have sprung before we know it! Day light hours are getting longer, the flowers will soon pop up and other small uplifting signs promising sunny skies are not far off. Spring also means - spring cleaning, changing habits, getting out and about, changing eating habits to more seasonal foods, and getting back into your spring and summer clothes - shorts and T-shirts, bikinis, ball games and maybe even a wedding gown!
10 ways fun ways to join your community and get ready for spring.
- Check out the farmers market for local and farm-to-table food movements to motivate you to cook with more sustainable, healthy foods. Eat when you’re hungry and not when you’re not. Before taking a bite or sitting down for a meal, ask yourself if you’re really hungry and if so, just how hungry. Eat accordingly. It sounds simple, but will take some practice. Listen to your body and eat for you—not anyone else.
- Research all the gyms and studios in your area for group fitness, and ways to get out and about. I think there are even wellness coaches for brides these days.
- Boot camp style workouts are a lot of fun, who doesn't like a challenge?
- Join a team - sometimes dragging yourself the gym is, well just that.
- Signing up to a sports league, is not only good for your heart rate it is good for your soul.
- Be a tourist in your own town - search your communities local event page. A walking tour can be a fun way to spice up your workout and you learn something too!
- Sign up for an obstacle course race, combing fun, fitness and adventure.
- Take a hike. Grab some friends and your hiking boot and hit the trials. Hiking is a great way to get your heart pumping.
- Try new things- rock climbing, yoga classes, golf or sailing lessons. Keeps life exciting by challenging you.
- Volunteering your services to help with a community fundraiser or event, or cleaning up the park or green space is another way to activity to your day while improving your community at the same time.

Community wellness is a good place to start ~ there is proven success when working out with a partner or group! Whether you’re driven by competition or motivated by the support of another individual, there’s something to be said about just having another person there with you through your journey. Pick a person who encourages you to prioritize you and your goals, join a team, a group or class—this may be the beginning of a new relationship, a more healthier community and better YOU!
